Urgent warning in Victoria over unapproved peptide product
Health authorities have warned Victorians to avoid an unapproved peptide product labelled Retatrutide after six people suffered serious liver damage this year.
Victorian health authorities have issued an urgent warning about an unapproved peptide product being sold under the name Retatrutide, after six people who used it developed serious liver damage since January.
The product is not sold through Australian pharmacies but has been circulating online, authorities said.
The product known as Retatrutide is also referred to as Reta, R-10 and R-20.
TGA warns public to stay away
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) issued the warning after becoming aware of liver injury cases linked to use of the product.
The TGA said Retatrutide had not been assessed and could pose serious health risks.
The regulator also warned that the risks could increase if contaminated products were used.
Authorities said the alert highlighted the serious consequences that can follow the online purchase of unapproved and experimental products.
They emphasised that products circulating under the Retatrutide label are not available in Australian pharmacies.
